Houston County and the Veteran Services Office are proud to be able to deliver transportation to the Veterans of Houston County for their VA medical appointments, VA approved Community Care appointments, C&P exams, and any other Veteran-related appointments they might have. This service is provided free of charge to the veteran residents of the county. Houston County has provided a wheelchair accessible van for use, and volunteers from across the county have come forward to help veterans with their medical transportation needs.
Since our program is operated by volunteers and the high demand we have from transportation needs. We ask that appointments be made at least 72 hours in advance to ensure we can find a volunteer and that the vehicle is available that day. We are also on occasion able to let a family member or caregiver travel along with the veteran. Please let us know if this would be desired when making the appointment. We can be reached at (507)-725-5805.
For veterans to use this service they must:
- Live in Houston County
- Must have their DD214/Discharge on file with our office
- Appointment must be VA related or authorized by the VA
- Notify the office at 72 hours in advance (507)-725-5805
We understand the challenges our veterans face in Houton County and that medical transportation can be a very difficult burden. That said we are unable to provide routine visits multiple times a week. (i.e. Transfusion/dialysis, multiple times a week) We do encourage you to call and see what we can work out and be of help with.
While this benefit and service are free, we ask that veterans receiving travel pay for their VA appointments to please donate it to the vehicle maintenance fund to ensure the longevity and viability of this program.
We are always looking for new and trusted drivers. If you or anyone you know would like to volunteer to drive for us, please call us and inquire for more specifics.
