Public health emergency preparedness is all about making sure communities are ready to respond to events that could threaten people’s health and safety. These emergencies can include disease outbreaks, natural disasters, chemical spills, or extreme weather. Preparedness means planning ahead, building strong systems, and training the people who will respond so that when something unexpected happens, we can act quickly and effectively.

Preparedness matters because it helps communities:
- Reduce illness, injury and loss of life by acting fast when something goes wrong.
- Keep essential services running.
- Protect the most vulnerable populations.
- Make sure accurate information reaches the public so people know what to do and how to stay safe.
- Recover more quickly, both physically and emotionally after an emergency.
